يُعدّ البحث العلمي منهجًا منظمًا لدراسة الظواهر وتحليلها، وفهم السلوك الإنساني في ضوء تفاعله مع محيطه المادي والاجتماعي والثقافي. ويحتل البعد النفسي أهمية كبيرة في تفسير السلوك، لما له من دور في توجيه تصرفات الإنسان الفردية والجماعية، الأمر الذي دفع الأديان والشرائع والقوانين والعلوم الإنسانية إلى الاهتمام بالنفس البشرية ودراسة العوامل المؤثرة فيها.
وفي إطار التفاعل بين علم النفس والعلوم السياسية، برز علم النفس السياسي بوصفه مجالًا معرفيًا يُعنى بتفسير الظواهر السياسية من خلال تحليل الدوافع والاتجاهات والأنماط السلوكية المؤثرة في الممارسة السياسية. وتنبع أهمية هذا المجال من إسهامه في فهم ديناميات السلطة والعلاقات بين الحاكم والمحكوم. ويهدف هذا البحث إلى دراسة أبرز التفسيرات النفسية للطاعة والامتثال للسلطة، باعتبارهما من القضايا الأساسية في تحديد طبيعة العلاقة السياسية، واستعراض أهم الإسهامات النظرية والتجريبية التي تفسر هذين السلوكين في ضوء العوامل النفسية والسياقية المتعددة.
